Welcome to Handmade Dolls by Julia!

I am Julia. In these textile art dolls I have combined everything I love to do; design, embroidery, dress making – and since I started to make the furniture – even upholstery!

Every doll is completely handmade and one of a kind. If you would like to see more please visit my Textile Art Doll GALLERY . I also make portraits and caricatures so if you are searching for the perfect gift for someone, why not commission your own art doll - just contact me and we will work out the details together or pop in to my Commissions - GALLERY and have a look around.

If you want to know more about me and my work please visit Doll Talk where I write about inspirations, news and and general thoughts.

Handmade, unique pieces of textile art -that will make you smile!

The search for something unique

Every doll is designed and handmade by myself from the highest quality broadloom cotton and stuffed firm with polyester filling which gives them a lovely compact feel. Faces and nails are hand embroidered using cotton thread and I use all kind of materials and techniques to make the dolls into characters. I love the process of turning the old and unwanted into something interesting and I often incorporate discarded garments, jewelry and anything else that inspires in my work.

Even though the dolls are not too fragile, they are not toys and not meant for children - just childish adults. They are one of a kind textile art dolls and make fantastic conversation pieces. Get talking.

Thanks for looking!

I have been embroidering since I was a little girl, but was never really interested in the result. That all changed when I came up with "Tattooed Beauties". It's a real challenge to embroider on the body of the doll but every artist likes a challenge!

I feel it's important to keep the accessories as unique as the art dolls - this little rake I found in a Swedish flea market. Antonia, my Autumn Gardener came to life around her tool and she is truly one of a kind!
